Why Queensland Reserves Plumbing for Licence Holders
Queensland requires two licences for plumbing and drainage work: an occupational licence for whoever is on the tools, and a contractor licence for the business accepting the job. The QBCC grants both. One proves trade skill; the other proves the business can meet its obligations and manage jobs properly.
Three licence classes matter to a household:
Plumber's licence
covers the pipework and fixtures side of the trade, except tasks listed for a separate endorsement.
Drainer's licence
covers below-ground drainage, with the same exception for endorsed tasks.
Gas work licence
only a licensed gasfitter may install, alter, repair, service, test or certify a gas system, and you can ask to see this licence before we start.
Regulated jobs fall into permit work, notifiable work and minor work, and only a licence holder may do any of the three. The QBCC's stated reason for that rule: licensing protects the home, the people living in it and the owner's legal position.
How a Plumbing Job Runs From Call to Finish
- 1

You tell us the fault
Ring (07) 3523 6484 or send a message with what you have noticed, whether that is a leaking mixer near the university campus or a slow drain in an older cottage.
- 2

We diagnose on site
We inspect the fixture or pipe involved and find the cause before changing anything. You then see a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees.
- 3

We do the work and test it
The repair or installation goes ahead once you approve the figure. We test what we have done, then pass on whatever documents the job produces. Card and EFTPOS payment on site settles it afterwards.

Paperwork and Inspections After a Job
Two bodies divide the oversight: the QBCC handles licensing and records notifiable jobs, while the local council processes permit applications and carries out inspections. What lands in your hands depends on the job itself.
Form 4
notifiable work comes with a Form 4 copy for you, and the QBCC can provide one if it never turns up.
Gas compliance certificate
gas work that installs or alters a system comes with the certificate handed over as soon as we finish.
An inspection by the council can be requested whenever you want one during notifiable work, and an inspector may visit with the occupier's consent inside 1 year of our notice to the QBCC.
Plumbing Across Neighbouring Suburbs
Our service run covers this suburb and its neighbours, with dedicated pages for Whiteside and Kurwongbah. The whole catchment is listed on our suburbs we cover list, and you can book a plumber for any of it.
Questions People Ask Our Plumbers
Call (07) 3523 6484How do I check a plumber's licence in Queensland?
Search the QBCC's online registers, which confirm whether a Petrie plumber holds a current licence. An address search on the same registers also shows whether a Form 4 was lodged for your property after notifiable work.
Does plumbing work in Petrie come with a warranty?
Yes, our lifetime labour warranty covers the work we do, and our Fix-It-or-It's-Free guarantee (T&Cs apply) stands behind every job as well.
What paperwork do I get after plumbing work in Petrie?
Notifiable work earns you a Form 4 copy. Gas work on a new system or alteration earns you a gas compliance certificate straight away, with a second copy going to the gas network operator.
What does QBCC licensed mean for my plumbing job?
The QBCC is the Queensland body that grants occupational and contractor licences for plumbing work. QBCC licensed means the tradie at your place and the company running the job both hold current QBCC licences.
